Street art @ Melbourne International Arts Festival 2008

Crooked Rib & Aerosol Arabic

Crooked Rib has been collaborating artistically since late 2007. A partnership between the City of Melbourne’s Community Cultural Development Program and the Muslim Women’s Council Victoria gave rise to this project, now comprised of fourteen young Muslim women. From street art to painting, stencilling to digital technologies, Crooked Rib works with artist Amanda King to express what it means to be young, Muslim and living in Melbourne through this remarkable exhibition of their new works.

“Collaborating with UK-based artist Aerosol Arabic, Melburnians can experience the creation of a whole new vernacular in stencil art. Together and over the course of the Festival, Crooked Rib & Aerosol Arabic will create a mural that is a powerful collaboration around ideas of difference and the mutual interest to challenge cultural misconceptions and celebrate identity.”
